Competition Summary (June 2023)
Internal Competitions
League Competitions
The club runs League (‘aggregate’) competitions for both prints and projected digital images (‘PDIs’) throughout the year. In each format, each member may enter up to 2 images in each of 5 league rounds; the best 7 scores in each format count towards the aggregate. Each image may be submitted twice only in these rounds, whether in Print or PDI format.

Annual Competitions
These competitions are for the best Print and PDI of the year, and are usually held in April. Any image which has not previously been entered in an Annual Competition is eligible, subject to the normal rules.
The Don Beney and Charles Mutton Cups
These are ‘themed’ competitions, normally with the same ‘theme’. The theme for the year is selected at the previous AGM. The Beney Cup is for Prints and the Mutton cup for PDIs. Each member may enter up to 4 images in total.
Andrich Trophy (no longer run)
Each member may submit up to three PDI images, and will be allotted a minute to present each picture to the audience. The winner is selected by audience vote.
Other Internal Competitions
These are held on an ad hoc basis. Rules will be notified by the Internal Competition Secretary.
Cup Winners and non Cup Winners
In the Internal League and Annual competitions, two cups will be awarded in each format. A ‘Cup Winners’ cup will be awarded to the overall winner of the competition. A ‘Championship’ cup will be awarded to the highest scoring member who has not won an internal club competition in a previous season. Eligilibity for ‘Championship’ cups will be determined at the beginning of each competition season, normally in September. Winning a cup in the course of the year does not affect a member’s eligibility.
External Competitions (for Individual Members)
Spectrum Trophy and Heywood Trophy
These are both projected digital image competitions for individual members of three clubs: Aldershot Farnham and Fleet, Farnborough and Yateley. They are hosted by each club in rotation. Members may submit one image for each of these competitions with the Heywood being for any subject and the Spectrum being themed, the theme subjects being used in rotation. Members should be present personally or ensure another member is present to identify their entry and accept any award on their behalf. Detailed rules for these competitions and for the Molesworth and Rainbow Cups are found on the Farnborough CC website in the FCC Club Handbook.
Molesworth Cup and Rainbow Trophy
These are individual print competitions with similar rules to the Spectrum Trophy. Both are open subject competitions. The Molesworth Cup is awarded for the best monochrome print, and the Rainbow Trophy for the best colour print. Again, members may submit one image in each competition.
Inter-club Competitions
Southern Counties Photographic Federation
This Club is a member of the Southern Counties Photographic Federation (SCPF). We enter the SCPF Inter-club Leagues (Print and PDI). Panels for these leagues are selected in August / September and submitted on behalf of the Club. The League rounds usually take place between November and March; each club will normally host a home round in each league.
Note that images used in previous interclub league competitions (for any club or Federation) are not eligible for use in SCPF competitions.
Triangle Trophy
This is a friendly competition between Aldershot, Farnham and Fleet, Alton and Basingstoke clubs. Hosting is on a rotation basis. Each club submits a panel of 15 prints, with no more than three by any member.
Other Inter-club Competitions
From time to time the club enters other competitions – members will be notified by the External Competition Secretary.
Panel Selection
Pictures for the Southern Counties Photographic Federation leagues will be chosen by a panel of at least three experienced Committee/Club members organised by the External Competition Secretary.
For other Inter-club competitions, images will be selected by the External Competition Secretary or one or more club members nominated by the External Competition Secretary.
Prints selected for all Inter-club competitions will be in the care of the External Competition Secretary (or Deputy) and will be returned to their owners as quickly as possible after the competition has finished.
